Banteay Meanchey-Cambodia's Little-Known Economic Hub

PHNOM PENH: Banteay Meanchey Governor Oum Reatrey confirmed that his province, which borders Thailand, collects an average of US $1-1.5 million per day in customs revenue.

In a press conference at the Office of the Council of Ministers on 28 March 2023, the governor noted the advantageous position of Banteay Meanchey as and international and regional border. It has two gates entering Thailand: Poipet and Stung Bot, and two regional gates at Malai and Boeung Trakoun. In addition to customs revenue, Banteay Meanchey province collected more than US $6.25 million in taxes for 2022.

According to Governor Oum Reatrey, Banteay Meanchey province not only provides full employment to its people, but it also provides jobs for nearly 100,000 people from other provinces. Of those employed, more than 85% work in agriculture, 10% in business, 5% in trade and 5% in other services.
